A template website is a pre-made, generic web site that requires customization. There are two types of templates: non-exclusive, and exclusive. A non-exclusive template is a template that can be purchased over and over. An exclusive template is a template that is taken out of circulation after it is purchased.
Template websites are not as flexible as custom websites. They have already been designed and converted to a web technology, so you are limited in the amount of customization you can do. Additionally, any extra functionality not included in the template such as search functionality or a web form to send email has to be programmed. Nevertheless, template sites are teriffic for small businesses or individuals who need a basic web presence.
